NHL ALL STAR GAME
AR ACTIVATION

2020

After the success of our previous project with the St. Louis Blues ScavengAR Hunt , my team at Drive Social Media was again contracted by the NHL to create an Augmented Reality (AR) activation for the NHL All-Star Weekend. I was responsible for aiding our development team in building a frictionless web app that allowed users to collect AR effects and enter for a chance to win unique prizes.

As the Creative Lead, I designed all 12 AR effects as well as a custom AR face filter video game. We used giant pucks with player graphics as "triggers" for the AR effects, which were placed throughout Kiener Plaza in St. Louis for hockey fans to enjoy.

BUBBLE HOCKEY FACE FILTER GAME

To push the concept and technology further than our previous project with the Blues, I created my first ever AR video game that allowed players to control a table hockey player against a randomized moving goalie. Once the game started, the player had 10 seconds to score as many goals as possible. I modeled both characters in Blender and used Meta Spark Studio’s visual coding panel to rig, code, and gamify the AR effect.

Check out the step-by-step process for how I build some of these effects below.
